These exercises are all designed to place a dynamic and uneven load on the core. These exercises help build core strength and endurance to prevent these forces from impacting the spine.
We usually break the exercises down into three groups: anti-extension (eg stopping your middle collapsing in a plank); anti-rotation (resisting and controlling twisting) and ant-lateral flexion (resisting uncontrolled sideways movement, like lifting a heavy suitcase and not hurting your back).
It doesn’t mean twisting and bending is bad, these exercises simply allow you to safely control the movements while under load.
